The Association of Local Banks, Savings Banks and Cooperative Banks in Denmark
Lokale Pengeinstitutter (The Association of Local Banks, Savings Banks and Cooperative Banks in Denmark) is an association of 43 local banks, savings banks and cooperative banks in Denmark, The Faroe Islands, and Greenland. The members include practically all the Danish local banks with a distinctive local presence. By far the greater number of the association's members are also members of Finans Danmark (Finance Denmark).
The circle of members provides service in more than 400 branches and employs approx. 7.500 staff. In the Danish private customers market, Lokale Pengeinstitutter's market share is currently more than 25 per cent. Among the small and medium-sized commercial businesses, the market share is approx. the same.
Purpose
Lokale Pengeinstitutter's purpose is to support its members and provide them with the best possible framework within which they can carry out their business. This means that the association acts as a common mouthpiece and thereby gives the individual members the opportunity to be heard and to influence the development in the financial sector and in the community of which the sector is a part.

The secretariat in Toldbodgade in Copenhagen is the center of the association's daily work. Director Jan Kondrup is the head of the secretariat and its approx. 25 employees.
From here the legislative process and new rules from, for example, the Danish FSA and the EU are closely monitored. The same applies to the development of financial infrastructure.
The secretariat provides the members with information, joint arrangements, service and advice in a wide range of areas.
It can thus in many ways be regarded as a staff function and sparring partner for member institutions on equal terms with their own specialists.
In addition, the secretariat functions as a common mouthpiece for the members in the media and the political system as well as a link to a wide range of collaborators and as a catalyst for the establishment of new joint companies, ensuring members a full and competitive product palette.
